Libya’s warring parties are due to meet in Geneva on 15 October to appoint a new Presidential Council.

Sources added that 80 public figures will participate in the meetings. This includes 13 Parliament members, and 13 members of the High Council of State (HCS).

According to an advisor of the Libyan Parliament, Fathi Al-Marimi, “The new government will be formed in order to unify Libyan institutions, especially its economic and financial ones.”

The Presidential Council is expected to consist of three persons, representing the historic regions of Tripoli, Barqa, and Fezzan.

Representatives of the UN, the US, the UK, France, China, Turkey, and Italy will also participate in the summit. Arab participation in the conference will be represented by Egypt, Algeria, the UAE, and the Arab League.

On 14 September, the eastern-based Interim Government submitted its resignation to Parliament Speaker, Ageela Saleh, after large-scale demonstrations broke out in the east of the country. Following that, the Prime Minister of the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord (GNA), Fayez Al-Sarraj, also announced his intention to step down by the end of October.
