On Tuesday, Egyptian President Abdel-Fatah El-Sisi pledged to support Libya during this turbulent time.

El-Sisi reiterated during his speech at the UN that, “Egypt will intervene and stop anyone who attempts to cross the Sirte and Al-Jufra red lines.”

“It is regrettable that the international community continues to turn a blind eye to the support of some countries to terrorists through money and weapons, or by providing safe havens, media and political platforms. It is also regrettable that some countries are facilitating the movement of terrorist fighters to conflict areas, especially to Libya, and to Syria before it,” he noted.

El-Sisi pointed out that the crisis does not only affect Libya, but also the security of neighbouring countries, and international stability. “Egypt is determined to support our Libyan brothers, to rid their country of terrorist organisations, and militias,” he noted. He denounced the “the blatant interference of some regional parties” has deliberately brought foreign fighters to Libya.

Leader of the Libyan National Army (LNA), Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, and Parliament Speaker, Ageela Saleh, arrived in Cairo. They were accompanied by a military delegation and are due to hold talks with a number of senior Egyptian officials.
