Libyan Army Spokesman Warns of Possible GNA Attacks

The spokesman for the Libyan National Army (LNA), Major General Ahmed al-Mismari, said they have received confirmed information regarding criminal and terrorist militias planning an aggression against LNA positions.

It is expected that the LNA will face an attack on the Sirte-Jufra front, he said.

The spokesman stressed that the LNA forces are committed to the ceasefire to ensure the success of the political process.

“The LNA forces are ready to respond to any attack and calls on the other party to put an end to its provocations and alleged violations of the ceasefire,” Al-Mismari noted.

Libya has been suffering from security chaos and a power struggle between the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord (GNA) and the Benghazi-based Interim Government, since the signing of the Skhirat Agreement in 2015. The Interim Government is domestically supported by the Libyan Parliament and the Libyan National Army, which is led by Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar.

In August, the two sides declared a ceasefire following numerous international negotiations.
