The Defence and National Security Committee of the Libyan House of Representatives (HoR) announced that it welcomes and supports the decision of the Libyan National Army (LNA) to accept the humanitarian truce in Tripoli. The aim of the truce is to confront a potential outbreak of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) in Libya.

In a statement on Sunday, the Defence Committee stressed that Turkish forces and Syrian mercenaries should leave western Libya. In addition, they called on forces aligned with the Government of National Accord (GNA) to abide by the truce.

The US Embassy in Libya and the UN Secretary-General António Guterres also welcomed the positive responses from Libya’s warring parties to endorse a humanitarian ceasefire. The international community hopes that local authorities will unite to face the common challenge posed by COVID-19.
