On Thursday, the US Embassy in Libya condemned the attack that took place against school children in Al-Ajaylat.

“We condemn all brutal attacks on children, and all other acts that violate the rights of Libyans,” the US Embassy tweeted

The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) also strongly condemned the brutal attack in a statement. Taking place on Wednesday, the attack led to the death of 16-year-old Musab Jumaa Dawah Bin Masoud, and the injuring of two other children, all wearing their school uniforms.

The statement added that UNSMIL expressed its deepest condolences to the families of the victim and wishes a speedy recovery to those injured. It also called for an immediate and transparent investigation into this heinous attack and called to swiftly bring the perpetrators to justice.

Since the 2011 civil war, successive governments have failed to prevent the deterioration of the security situation across Libya, with kidnappings and murder being a common occurrence.
