On Wednesday, the Military Information Division of the General Command of the Libyan National Army (LNA) announced the capture of seven fighters aligned with the Government of National Accord (GNA) during the attack on Al-Watiya airbase, 125km west of Tripoli.

In a statement on Facebook, the LNA’s Military Information Division said that its forces successfully countered an attempt by GNA forces to attack Al-Watiya airbase and inflicted heavy casualties on the attackers.

An escalation in hostilities could spell disaster for Libya’s healthcare system as it prepares to handle the COVID-19 threat. On Tuesday night, authorities confirmed the first case of Coronavirus in Tripoli.

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres called for a complete ceasefire in conflicts around the world as governments and local authorities struggle with this pandemic that has engulfed the world.
