LNA Rejects UN Proposal for International Forces in Libya

On Friday, a military official of the Libyan National Army (LNA) expressed his complete rejection of the United Nations Secretary-General’s proposal to deploy international monitoring forces in Libya. These forces would be comprised of civilians and retired soldiers from international bodies, such as the African Union, European Union, and the Arab League.

In an interview with ‘Al-Sharq Al-Awsat’ newspaper, the official considered the proposal as an unacceptable interference in Libyan affairs.

He stressed that the LNA is able to restore stability, noting that the Joint Military Commission (JMC) is making great efforts to implement its decisions on the ground in a way that guarantees a permanent ceasefire.

On Wednesday, Secretary-General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres proposed an international committee to monitor Libya’s fragile ceasefire. This comes amid hopes that foreign fighters will soon leave, and the country can turn the page on a decade of war.
