On Friday, the Prime Minister of Libya’s Government of National (GNA) Accord Fayez Al-Sarraj flew from Rome, where he met with Italian officials, to Ankara to hold further meetings with Turkish officials, the Italian news agency Nova reported.

Early on Friday, Al-Sarraj met with his Italian counterpart Giuseppe Conte at Chigi Palace in Rome. Conte reiterated the importance of swiftly advancing the political process under the auspices of the UN, describing his meeting with Al-Sarraj as a “constructive meeting.”

Nova noted that a delegation of the GNA’s military leadership has traveled to Ankara, led by Interior Minister Fathi Bashaga and Defense Minister Salah Al-Din Al-Namroush.

Nova claimed that the head of Libya’s High State Council, Khaled Al-Mishri, went to Ankara accompanied by 16 security and military leaders, in particular Muhammad Al-Hussan, Ayoub Porras and Bashir Khalaf Allah known as “al Baqara”.

Al-Mishri’s flight departed half an hour after the take-off of an African Airlines plane carrying Defense Minister Salah al-Din al-Namroush on an unannounced visit, Nova said.

An expanded security meeting is likely to be held in Turkey, where there are a further 16 GNA military leaders.
