On Friday, the French Foreign Ministry welcomed the meeting of the Consultative Consensus Committee of the Political Dialogue Forum (CCCPD) in Geneva, expressing its hope for tangible progress towards choosing an executive authority to organize elections in Libya before the end of 2021.

In a statement the Foreign Ministry reiterated its support for a political solution in Libya in order to “restore the state’s sovereignty and stability and end foreign interference.”

The statement also called on all Libyan stakeholders to participate constructively in the political process sponsored by the United Nations (UN).

The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) is convening meetings for the Advisory Committee of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum (LPDF) in Geneva. The meetings will take place from the 13th to the 16th of January.

The Acting Head of UNSMIL, Stephanie Williams, indicated that the Advisory Committee will come up with recommendations concerning the formation of an interim, unified executive authority that would shoulder the responsibility in a participatory manner and not on the basis of a power-sharing agreement.
