Informed sources revealed that a delegation from the House of Representatives (HoR) and the High State Council (HSC) will head to the Egyptian capital, Cairo, on Sunday.

Sources added that the purpose of the delegation’s visit is to participate in meetings held by the committee concerning the Libyan constitutional path under the auspices of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL).

Sources also pointed out that the meetings would focus on finding areas of agreement among members of the committee on the draft of the Libyan constitution.

A member of the legal committee, Abdul Qadir Hawili, said that the committee continues to discuss proposals on the constitutional basis for the upcoming elections.

In press statements, Hawili added that the committee will meet on Sunday to discuss the rest of the proposals that will be presented.

He continued that “it is expected that the proposals will be presented to the Constitutional Committee between the HoR and the HSC on January 20th in the Egyptian capital, Cairo”.

On Saturday, the Acting Head of UNSMIL, Stephanie Williams, announced that the members of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum (LPDF) will vote on the proposed mechanism for choosing the interim executive authority next Monday.

Williams explained that voting takes place 24 hours, and the results will be announced upon completion of the counting of votes on Tuesday.

“The proposed mechanism will be approved if it gets 63% of the vote,” Williams said at a news conference. “If it does not reach this percentage, a second round of voting will be held after two days. The required percentage for agreement in this round is 50% +1,” Williams noted.
