On Saturday, the Supreme Council of Libyan Tribes issued a statement condemning the killings, arson, displacement, and chaos in the city of Tarhuna.

The council held the Government of National Accord (GNA), legally responsible and for its “deliberate failure,” to protect civilians. As well as “the United Nations, the Security Council, and the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) legally and morally responsible for what is happening to the Libyan people.”

The statement denounced the international interference, “that has turned Libya into a country filled with, chaos, murder, displacement and poverty.” It urged the tribes to implement social reconciliation, “to cut off the road for anyone who tries to spread discord among the Libyan people.”
