Prime Minister of Libya’s Government of National Unity (GNU), Abdel-Hamid Dbaiba discussed with the Head of the High National Election Commission (HNEC), Emad Al-Sayeh the upcoming presidential elections.

The media office of Dbaiba stated that the meeting was held at the HNEC headquarters in Tripoli, with the two sides discussing the needs of HNEC and the mechanisms of preparing for the elections.

The statement added that Dbaiba and Al-Sayeh also discussed the possibility of holding a referendum on the draft constitution.

“The Prime Minister stressed the need to communicate with the concerned bodies the constitutional framework in order to reach the appropriate legal solutions to enable the commission to hold the elections on time,” the statement noted.

In February, Dbaiba was appointed as the Libyan Prime Minister. The transitional government will lead the country until national elections, scheduled for 24 December.
