Major General Abdullah Senussi, the Chief of Libyan Intelligence during the Gaddafi regime is reportedly being prevented from undergoing treatment for cancer in prison, according to his daughter Al-Anoud Senussi.

Al-Anoud said her father had cancer, and his health condition had deteriorated during his time in Mitiga prison. She appealed to the interim Libyan authorities to allow her to visit him, and allow doctors to examine him and provide the necessary treatment.

“They will try my father again in the Abu Salim case, and his first hearing will be on the 16th of August. My father is very ill and suffers from prostate cancer. They let us visit him long ago for only 10 minutes. We were not able to check on him during that very short period,” she said in an audiotape obtained by Libya Review.

“We asked the Minister of Justice, the Attorney General, and the Interim Prime Minister Abdel-Hamid Dbaiba to allow a medical team to examine my father, but the commander of the deterrence forces, Abdel-Raouf Kara, intervened and refused our demands,” she added.

She questioned why the Libyan officials who are now responsible for the “insecurity” in the country, are not being held accountable, “justice must be applied to all,” she said.

On 17 March 2012, news reports stated that he had been arrested at Nouakchott airport in Mauritania. The Libyan government is reported as having requested his extradition to Libya.

In July 2015, Senussi was sentenced to death by a Libyan court; the case was under appeal as of October 2015.
