On Monday, the President of the Libyan Council of Elders, Mohamed Idris Al-Mogherbi, called for a million man demonstration throughout Libya on 5 July to protest Turkey’s interefence in the country.

Al-Mogherbi said that the tribes will fight alongside the Libyan National Army (LNA), led by Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar.

Earlier this morning, the head of the Supreme Council of the Sheikhs and Elders of Libya, Mohamed Al-Misbahi, stressed the right of the tribes to defend their country, declaring their fight alongside the LNA.

He said in media statements: “The tribes will support the Egyptian intervention in Libya, if Turkey crosses the Sirte – Al-Jufra line”, stressing that millions are ready to take up arms to repel the Turkish attack if it crosses the red line.

On Saturday, the official spokesperson for the Supreme Council of Sheikhs and Elders of Libya, Abdul Karim Al-Orfi, announced that the tribes have prepared volunteers to be trained and armed in response to the call of Egyptian President Abdel-Fatah El-Sisi to fight what he described as the “Turkish colonists and their mercenary militia”.
