Libya and Qatar have agreed to resume direct flights between the two countries starting in October, Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity (GNU) Abdel-Hamid Dbaiba announced on Wednesday.
The decision was reached during a meeting between Dbaiba and Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani at the Amiri Diwan in Doha.
According to the Libyan government, the move aims to enhance cooperation in the aviation sector and facilitate travel between the two nations.
The meeting also focused on economic cooperation, investment opportunities, and the implementation of joint strategic projects to strengthen bilateral ties and promote a more effective economic partnership.
Both leaders exchanged views on regional developments and issues of mutual concern.
Dbaiba expressed appreciation for Qatar’s role in regional mediation, particularly in supporting Palestine and the humanitarian situation in Gaza. He commended Qatar’s efforts in alleviating suffering and advancing diplomatic solutions to ongoing conflicts.
The resumption of direct flights is expected to improve economic and diplomatic ties between Libya and Qatar, fostering greater connectivity and collaboration in various sectors. This agreement marks another step in Libya’s efforts to expand its international partnerships and restore full aviation operations with key allies.
