Libyan and Sudanese officials held discussions in Benghazi on arrangements for the voluntary return of Sudanese migrants currently housed in shelter centers across eastern Libya, as authorities continue efforts to reorganize migration management and address irregular migration challenges.
The talks brought together Salah Al-Khafifi, head of Libya’s Anti-Illegal Migration Agency, and Sudanese Consul General in Benghazi Abdelrahman Mohamed Rahmatallah.
The meeting focused on mechanisms for implementing organized voluntary return programs and coordinating repatriation procedures for Sudanese nationals staying in Libyan migrant shelter facilities.
According to Libyan officials, the discussions were held in line with directives issued by eastern Libyan authorities and the Interior Ministry regarding the gradual return of migrants through legal and humanitarian frameworks designed to ensure safe and regulated procedures.
The meeting took place at the Benghazi Grand Shelter Center, where both sides reviewed plans aimed at accelerating voluntary return operations while strengthening coordination between Libyan authorities and the Sudanese diplomatic mission.
Officials discussed administrative, logistical, and security arrangements linked to repatriation procedures, in addition to humanitarian measures intended to protect migrants during transportation and return operations.
Libyan authorities emphasized the importance of implementing what they described as safe, organized, and humane return procedures while maintaining security controls and respecting humanitarian considerations related to migrant welfare.
Recent months have witnessed increased coordination between Libyan security agencies and diplomatic missions representing migrant communities inside Libya, particularly regarding voluntary return programs and deportation arrangements.
