On Friday, the Media Office of Prime Minister-designate of Libya’s Government of National Unity (GNU), Abdelhamid Dbaibah, announced that he will reopen the Sirte-Misrata coastal road between the West and the East of the country.

Last October, Libyan rival groups agreed to implement a permanent ceasefire and reopen the coastal road. They have also agreed to form a Joint Military Commission (JMC) 5+5.

The newly elected Head of Libya’s Presidential Council, Mohamed Al-Mnifi, confirmed that the opening the Sirte-Misrata coastal road will be one of the priorities of the next government in order to advance the political process. He added that the government will support the efforts of the JMC 5+5 amid rising hopes for the near unification of institutions in Libya.
