US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken reiterated his support for the Government of National Unity’s (GNU) goal to hold Libya’s general elections as scheduled on 24 December, and for the immediate withdrawal of foreign forces from the North-African country.

“At the G7, the US renewed support for the Libyan government to hold December 2021 elections and for the immediate withdrawal of foreign forces,” Secretary Blinken tweeted on Tuesday.

“We stand with the Libyan people to find a UN-facilitated political solution to the conflict,” he added.

On Monday, Libya’s Foreign Minister, Najla Al-Mangoush called on Turkey to cooperate with the GNU with regard to expelling all foreign forces and mercenaries to preserve Libya’s sovereignty. In a joint press conference with her Turkish counterpart, Mevlut Cavusoglu she also called on “Turkey to cooperate with us regarding the implementation of the ceasefire agreement and the outcomes of the Berlin Conference.”
