Libyan & Egyptian Foreign Minister Discuss Latest Developments in Libya

On Saturday, Egypt’s Foreign Minister, Sameh Shoukry, received his Libyan counterpart, Najla Al-Mangoush, at Al-Tahrir palace in Cairo. The two discussed the latest developments in Libya and ways to support the Libyan peace process.

In a joint press conference, Al-Mangoush said that the Egyptian and Libyan people have close relations and a common history. She highlighted that the two countries have distinguished relations.

She confirmed her aspiration to support her country in the implementation of the road map, appreciating the resumption of holding the Egyptian committees.

The Egyptian Foreign Minister said that he discussed strengthening the relations between both countries with the Libyan Foreign Minister. He stressed that they also confirmed Egypt’s support for the political track in Libya.

Shoukry affirmed Egypt’s support for Libya’s sovereignty and the importance of holding elections at the end of this year. He also stressed the need for removing all mercenaries and foreign fighters from Libya. He explained that the ongoing preparations for the Berlin Conference II and the importance of its success were addressed.

Notably, Al-Mangoush arrived in Cairo on Saturday in a one-day official to meet a further number of Egyptian senior officials, to continue consultations regarding all regional files.
