On Sunday, Libya discussed the Arab agreement to regulate passenger transport between countries, with the Arab league. It is the first meeting of the technical committee supervising the agreement.
The meeting is held at the headquarters of the Arab League and will last for two days. The League Charter’s Article 2 stipulates that close cooperation should be established between Arab countries in economic and financial affairs.
The first meeting of the technical committee supervising the implementation of the agreement kicked off on Sunday.
The agreement came to regulate the transport of passengers on roads between Arab countries and Libya.
This agreement comes in the implementation of what was stipulated in Article 2 of the League’s Charter.
It encourages tourism among Arab countries and removes restrictions and obstacles to international transportation of passengers through roads between Arab countries.
The agreement also comes as a desire to strengthen and develop social and economic ties between the countries.
This committee is meeting in accordance with Article 27 of the agreement. The committee is composed of representatives of the contracting parties, which are eight Arab countries.
The committee’s parties are Jordan, UAE, Iraq, Palestine, Qatar, Libya, Yemen and Syria. Notably, Syria’s membership is suspended at the present time.
The committee’s decisions are taken due to the internal system of the Council of Arab Ministers of Transport regarding the problems arising from the application of this agreement, by a two-thirds majority of the votes.
If it is not possible to take or implement these decisions, the matter shall be presented to the Council of Arab Transport Ministers.
Notably, Secretary-General of the Arab League, said that the 24th of December has become an important date in Libya.
He called on the members of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum (LPDF) to quickly agree on a constitutional basis for elections.
Aboul Gheit stressed the importance of implementing the outcomes of the Berlin Conference II and Algeria conference of Neighbouring Countries.
He underscored that the withdrawal of all foreign fighters from Libya is necessary for achieving stability in the country.
