Abdel-Hadi Al-Hawaij, The Minister of Foreign Affairs for Libya’s Interim Government, held a telephone conversation with his Algerian counterpart, Sabri Boukadoum, to discuss the latest developments in Libya and the global COVID-19 pandemic.

Boukadoum expressed his concern over the violations committed by the Government of National Accord’s (GNA) forces in western cities, especially Surman and Sabratha, stressing the importance of finding a solution to the Libyan crisis.

Al-Hawaij stated that that the Libyan National Army (LNA) was fighting a war to set Libya free from militias allied to the Government of National Accord (GNA). He pointed out that extremist elements fighting on behalf of the GNA in the recent clashes confirmed their belief that their fight was legitimate.

The National Commission for Human Rights in Libya (NCHRL) has strongly condemned the events in Sabratha and Surman. It called on the Interior Minister of the GNA, Fathi Bashagha, to take legal action against a number of GNA-affiliated forces and bring them to justice for looting and torching of public and private properties in Sabratha and Surman.
