The Minister of Foreign Affairs for Libya’s Government of National Accord (GNA), Mohamed Siala, held a phone call with James Cleverly, the British Minister of State for the Middle East and North Africa, to discuss the appointment of a new UN Special Envoy to Libya.

The Foreign Ministry of the GNA stated that the two officials discussed the latest developments in Tripoli and the ongoing political process.

On March 12, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres appointed Stephanie Williams to be the Acting Special Representative and Head of the UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), after former SRSG Ghassan Salame’s resigned on March 2, 2020 due to deteriorating health conditions.
