Libya’s Supreme Committee to Combat Coronavirus affiliated with the Government of National Accord (GNA) has approved to impose a full curfew for a further 10 days as a precautionary measure to curb the spread of the coronavirus.
The commission’s decision came after that a coronavirus case was registered on Saturday, raising the number of people infected with the virus to 65.
On Sunday, members of the Committee held a meeting with the Chair of the Scientific Advisory Committee to Combat the Coronavirus to implement the curfews. From Monday, May 18th, the curfew will start from 6:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m. The committee added that a full curfew would be imposed during the Eid al-Fitr holiday.
The National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) had announced on Saturday the discovery of a new coronavirus case, 10 days after no infections were recorded.
Indications revealed that the new infection may come from those coming from abroad.
The committee also recommended the closure of supermarkets, including all clothing and shoe stores, and all stores that do not provide basic services to citizens.
The committee stressed the necessity of obligating citizens to wear masks in addition to continuing to work in all administrative institutions at a rate of 10% from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Banks will continue to work until 5 p.m, whilst adhering to all preventive measures imposed by the government.
