Italy’s Defense Minister Lorenzo Guerini discussed topics of mutual concern in international affairs with his French counterpart Florence Parly. Special attention was given to developments in Libya.

In a phone call, the two touched on the role that the EU’s Operation IRINI could and should play in order to monitor the arms embargo on Libya, according to the Italian news agency Agenzia Nova.

Guerini said that Operation IRINI must be fully deployed shortly to give substance to the arms blockade’s implementation and apply equal scrutiny on the two conflicting parties in Libya.

The two sides agreed on the importance of appointing a new UN special envoy to Libya, as well as confirming the UN Security Council resolution on the arms embargo imposed on Libya.
