German Chancellor, Angela Merkel stressed the need to reach a peaceful solution to the Libyan crisis.

This came during her meeting with the Commander of the Libyan National Army’s (LNA) Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar on Tuesday in the German capital Berlin.

According to a statement released by the German government, Merkel and Haftar discussed the current political landscape in Libya and ways to implement the results of the Berlin conference, especially in regards to achieving a lasting ceasefire agreement and a return to peace talks.

This meeting came a day after Haftar met French President Emmanuel Macron and the French Foreign, Interior and Defense Ministers in Paris.

During his meeting with Macron, Haftar said that he is committed to a ceasefire if the “militias” in Tripoli respect the agreement.
