On Monday, Prime Minister of Libya’s eastern-based Interim Government Abdullah Al-Thinni held a meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdul-Hadi Al-Hawaij to discuss the latest developments in the country.

During the meeting, the two discussed the ‘Cairo Declaration’ and the importance of disarming and disbanding militias, in addition to expelling foreign mercenaries being deployed to Libya.

Al-Thinni stated that this could be achieved through the implementation of the resolutions of the United Nations Convention against the Recruitment of Foreign Mercenaries, signed in 1989.

The meeting also concluded that any solutions to the current crisis must be based on UN Security Council Resolution No. 2214 on combating terrorism.

The Foreign Minister briefed the Prime Minister on the Ministry’s coordination efforts with international organizations concerning the displacement of people in Libya’s western region, as well as the human rights violations suffered by residents of Tarhuna, Qasr bin Ghashir, and other Libyan cities.
