The Security Directorate of Sabha announced on Thursday the arrest of a Nigerian national for distributing illegal drugs in the city. According to a statement released on their Facebook page, the Directorate’s apprehension and investigation unit, supported by the Directorate’s backing force, managed to detain the individual involved in the sale and promotion of narcotics.

The announcement detailed that the security forces discovered hallucinogenic pills, cannabis, and intoxicating substances in possession of the accused. Legal proceedings have been initiated against the individual in question.

The arrest signifies a critical effort by Libyan security forces to combat drug trafficking within the region, highlighting their ongoing commitment to maintaining law and order. This incident underscores the challenges faced by Libyan authorities in curbing the spread of illegal narcotics, a concern that has implications for both public health and security across the nation.

For local and international observers, this development emphasizes the need for continued vigilance and cooperation in the fight against drug trafficking, an issue that remains a priority for law enforcement agencies worldwide.

In March, Libya’s Counter-Terrorism and Organized Crime Deterrence Agency (Al Radaa) has foiled the largest smuggling operation of its kind this year, seizing significant quantities of cannabis.

The agency pointed out that the targeted operation resulted in the arrest of a cell that had relocated from the eastern part of the country and was apprehended in a state of flagrante delicto in the city of Tarhuna.

The cell was transporting over a thousand kilograms of cannabis, cleverly concealed inside a truck designated for food transportation, which contained boxes of cooking oil unfit for human consumption.

The apprehended members of the cell confessed to intending to transport these drugs to the capital, Tripoli, from the city of Tobruk in the east, before being intercepted and seized by the agency’s personnel.
