The principal Arabic language spokesperson at the US Department of State, Geraldine Gassam Griffith, said that all parties should respect the UN arms embargo on Libya. She added that the Libyan people must ultimately resolve this crisis through political negotiations.

Griffith asserted in press statements on Saturday that the United States rejected any foreign armed intervention in Libya.

It is necessary to finalize the immediate ceasefire, within the framework of the UN-led 5 + 5 military talks, she added.

She stressed the need to resume the export of oil production, as it is a vital step to prevent further conflict and violation of Libyan sovereignty.

Griffith also called for the necessity to allow the National Oil Corporation to resume its work so that no foreign country has the opportunity to use the closure as an excuse to launch armed action to save oil.
