On Wednesday, the US Special Envoy to Libya, Ambassador Richard Norland, recently met with Egyptian Chargé d’Affaires, Ambassador Tamer El-Hefny, in Tripoli. This meeting underscored the importance of unified international support for Libya’s political process, which is facilitated by the United Nations.

Ambassador Norland emphasized the critical nature of this unified international backing in advancing stability in Libya. He highlighted that the ongoing efforts by the United Nations to mediate and guide Libya towards a stable political framework are essential.

The discussion also focused on developing a reliable roadmap for national elections, which are crucial for establishing long-term peace and governance in the country.

Earlier, Norland met with the Chairman of the National Oil Corporation (NOC), Farhat Bengdara, to discuss the ongoing production halt at the Sharara oil field.

Norland said, “Oil production in Libya is its economic lifeline, and any production stoppage harms all Libyans.”

The US envoy emphasized the importance of maintaining the independence and technocratic integrity of the NOC.

Previously, the NOC announced a partial reduction in production at the Sharara oil field due to force majeure conditions resulting from sit-ins by the “Fazzan Movement.”
