On Sunday, the Minister of Foreign Affairs for the Government of National Accord (GNA), Mohamed Siyala, held a telephone conversation with his Italian counterpart, Luigi Di Maio, during which they discussed the latest developments in Libya.

The two tackled the issue of illegal migration and ways of enhancing cooperation between the two countries. Siyala reviewed the GNA’s efforts in combating migration, pointing out the recent inauguration of a coordination center for combating illegal migration in the Maltese capital during the recent visit of Prime Minister Fayez Al-Sarraj to Valletta.

Libya has been in turmoil since 2011, when a NATO-backed uprising toppled long time leader Muammar Gaddafi. The country has since been split between two rival administrations in the east and the west.
