Libyan MP: African Union initiative will not end Libyan crisis

Saad Emghayeb, a member of Libya’s House of Representatives (HoR), questioned the ability of the reconciliation conference called by the African Union to find a solution to the Libyan crisis.

He said that the Libyan crisis will end when Tripoli is liberated by the Libyan National Army (LNA). In a statement, the Libyan MP stressed that Libya is suffering from a security crisis, not from a political or ethnic one, which means that reconciliation is a moot effort.

During a speech on Saturday, Emghayeb said he expects the conference to fail like previous international initiatives that were equally detached from Libya’s reality.

Emghayeb also praised the pivotal role of Libyan tribes in supporting the LNA, explaining that their decision reflected the impact of the Libyan crisis and their conviction that there can be no political solution that is not representative of the Libyan people.
