A horrific crime has shaken the Libyan city of Sirte. A 33-year-old man killed his 68-year-old mother, by slitting her throat with a glass shard inside their home.

Authorities rushed to the scene after receiving an urgent report. Officers from the Criminal Investigation Department, under the supervision of the Public Prosecution, arrested the suspect and launched an investigation.

The motive remains unclear, but early findings suggest psychological or social issues may have played a role. This tragedy has sparked concerns about mental health, family violence, and economic hardships affecting individuals.

The Surt Security Directorate urged citizens to offer psychological and emotional support to those in distress, warning of the dangers of neglecting mental health struggles.

This shocking case has reignited discussions on the need for stronger mental health services and social support to prevent such tragedies in the future. The investigation is ongoing, with more details expected soon.

This tragedy comes at a time when Libya continues to grapple with deep social and economic challenges. Years of political instability, armed conflict, and economic hardship have taken a heavy toll on Libyan society. Many families struggle with financial difficulties, a lack of social support, and worsening mental health conditions.

Libya, once one of the wealthiest countries in Africa, has faced relentless turmoil since the 2011 uprising that toppled Muammar Gaddafi.

The country has since been divided by rival governments, ongoing armed conflicts, and a fragile economy. Basic services, including mental health care, remain severely underdeveloped, leaving many citizens without proper psychological support.
