Derna Declares Curfew To Curb COVID-19 Outbreak

The Supreme Committee to Counter Coronavirus in Derna, declared on Wednesday that it would impose a night-time curfew in the city, from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.

During the meeting, the Committee said that the decision included the closure of wedding halls, barbershops, cafes, restaurants, hairdressers, in addition to suspending all public markets in the city. It also warned that those who violate the curfew will be legally held accountable. This decision comes in accordance with stringent governmental measures needed to confront the virus.

The meeting was attended by Brigadier General Adel Al-Faadi, Head of Derna Security Directorate and President of the Committee, Tariq Abdel-Nabi, Undersecretary of Derna Municipality’s Office, Adel Adawal, Chairman of the Advisory Committee for the Geographical Domain of Derna, and Shuaib Bou Fajra, Director of Health Service in the city.

Today, the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) reported 161 new cases, and three additional deaths. This brings the total number of cases to 4,224 and a death toll of 96. It added that eight patients have successfully recovered, raising the number of recoveries to 633.
