Libyan Parliament Welcomes US Financial Sanctions on Libyan Smuggling Networks

The Libyan Parliamentary Foreign Affairs Committee welcomed the US Treasury’s imposition of financial sanctions on a network of fuel and drug smugglers in Libya.

In a statement, the Committee stressed the necessity of combatting smuggling of all kinds, as it is one of the means of funding armed and terrorist groups. This funding not only contributes to instability and prolongs the conflict in Libya, but also wastes the country’s economic resources and deprives the Libyan people of them.

The Committee also welcomed all international efforts to combat economic crimes and hold those involved in them accountable. It stressed the Parliament’s keenness to adhere to international resolutions in particular.
