Libyan Governments Roll Out Measures to Combat COVID-19

Both of Libya’s governments continue to suspended different activities across the country to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 virus (commonly known as Coronavirus).

GNAs General Authority of Endowments and Islamic Affairs announced a ban on Friday prayers at mosques and advised citizens to carry out their prayers at home.


The authority pointed out in its statement that the decision came in coordination with the Ministry of Health and the National Centre for Disease Control.

For his part, the head of Sirte Municipality’s Council (that is under the eastern based Interim Government) Salem Amer, suspended all sport activities starting from Sunday, March 15, as part of a comprehensive plan to prevent an outbreak of the virus.
All cafe’s and event halls have been closed down as well.

Similarly, Benghazi and various other Eastern cities Security Directorate ordered the closure of several recreational sports clubs, parks, children’s playgrounds, gyms, and wedding halls.
