Qatar is set to begin sending military advisers to Libya, to bolster the forces of the Government of National Accord (GNA), to fight the Libyan National Army (LNA), according to an unnamed government official.

The comments came during a visit to the GNA by the defence ministers of Turkey and Qatar, while they discussed increasing their military assistance to the government in Tripoli.

Ankara’s interference in the war has been frequently criticized by the European Union, especially France, Egypt, Cyprus, Greece, and the UAE.

Turkish Defence Minister Hulusi Akar, and Qatar’s Khalid Al-Attiyah, held discussions with GNA Prime Minister Fayez Al-Sarraj, and Undersecretary of Defence Salah Al-Din Al-Namroush, in the Libyan capital, Turkey’s Defence Ministry reported.

Qatar agreed to provide training for Libyan recruits at Turkish, and Qatari military colleges, Libya’s Al-Ahrar TV reported.

German Foreign Minister, Heiko Maas, also visited Tripoli on Monday and called for the continuation of peace efforts. He is believed to not have met the Turkish and Qatari delegations.
