The French Embassy in Libya has marked the anniversary of the martyrdom of Omar Al-Mukhtar, known as the “Lion of the Desert” and “Leader of the Martyrs,” with a message of remembrance and respect.
In a statement, the Embassy said: “On the anniversary of the martyrdom of Sheikh of the Martyrs Omar Al-Mukhtar, we honor all Libyans who lost their lives for the sake of Libya.”
The tribute highlights France’s recognition of Libya’s long struggle for freedom and independence, symbolized by the legendary resistance leader Omar Al-Mukhtar, who led the fight against Italian colonial forces in the early 20th century before his execution in 1931.
