MP Calls for Urgent Session to Question Central Bank Over Cash Shortage Crisis
Libyan House of Representatives member Saeed Imgaib has called for an emergency parliamentary session to address what he described as the “serious repercussions” of the country’s ongoing cash shortage.
His demand came after the Central Bank of Libya (CBL) decided to withdraw certain denominations of currency from circulation without ensuring the availability of adequate replacements.
In a post on his Facebook page, Emgaib said the decision sparked widespread public discontent and had directly impacted citizens’ living conditions. He warned that withdrawing banknotes without a clear replacement plan constitutes a breach of the Central Bank’s responsibility to maintain monetary and economic stability.
Imgaib urged the House of Representatives to summon the Governor of the Central Bank to appear before parliament and provide explanations regarding the technical and financial reasons behind the liquidity shortage.
He also demanded clarification on the bank’s preparedness to fill the gap created by the withdrawal and the measures being taken to resolve the crisis and prevent its recurrence.
