Sirte Oil and Gas Production Company held technical talks with global energy firm SLB to advance the remote monitoring project for injected gas flow and production oversight. The meeting took place at the company’s headquarters in Marsa el-Brega, where both sides reviewed progress made during 2025 and reaffirmed the importance of completing ongoing projects. The gas injection monitoring system was highlighted as a major step towards modernising Libya’s operational control and surveillance systems.
According to Sirte’s statement, the discussions focused on installing advanced technology designed to monitor injected gas flows and track production in real time. The system aims to strengthen operational efficiency and provide more accurate performance data, supporting Libya’s efforts to modernise its energy sector.
The meeting also covered the need to introduce state-of-the-art horizontal drilling technologies. These methods have proven effective worldwide, especially in thin reservoirs with thicknesses between six and seven feet. Sirte and SLB agreed that deploying such techniques could significantly improve reservoir performance and recovery rates.
Both sides reviewed the results of recent hydraulic fracturing operations in the Isteqlal Field’s Gargaf layer and the Wadi Field’s Nubian layer. The findings showed positive operational indicators and opened new opportunities for expanding the use of these technologies in future development plans. The assessment suggested that applying modern fracturing solutions could enhance well productivity and support long-term field optimisation.
The meeting was attended by Sirte Chairman Mostafa Mohamed Hammad, Drilling and Petroleum Engineering Director Abdunnaser Al-Mahshish, and Industrial Lifting Supervisor Walid Al-Sheikhi. SLB’s delegation included Benghazi Office Manager Qais Bunkheila and North Africa Integrated Projects Manager Siraj Busneina. Both sides expressed readiness to continue technical cooperation to advance Libya’s production capabilities.
