Libyan Army Spokesperson “self-isolates” after Trip Abroad

Libyan National Army (LNA) spokesperson Major General Ahmed al-Mismari and his staff will enter a 14-day quarantine period after they returned from a trip abroad, according to a statement published on the spokesperson’s Twitter account.

Al-Mismari added that he and the accompanying delegation did not have identifiable symptoms of COVID-19 (commonly known as Coronavirus) but would go into self-isolation as a precautionary measure.

The LNA is currently engaged in a civil war against the Government of National Accord (GNA) over who gets to govern Libya. In recent weeks numerous clashes have erupted in Libya, particularly around Tripoli’s last functioning airport.

Despite the fact that Libya is yet to confirm any cases of COVID-19, the government has taken strict measures to prevent an outbreak of the virus inside the country. Schools, universities, cafes and restaurants have been closed and public prayers in mosques have been suspended for two weeks.
