The Benghazi Municipality held an expanded meeting bringing together the city’s mayor and the deputy head of the municipal office alongside the Director of the National Center for Disease Control, the Director of the Food and Drug Control Office, and the Head of the Environmental Sanitation Department to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation in protecting public health across the city.

The meeting comes as part of the municipality’s ongoing efforts to improve coordination between institutions responsible for public health oversight and regulatory work. Officials discussed the most pressing challenges facing these bodies and explored solutions aimed at improving operational efficiency and enhancing the quality of services provided to residents.

Institutional Support for Public Health System

Participants reviewed mechanisms to provide greater institutional support to health and regulatory authorities in Benghazi. The discussions focused on facilitating oversight procedures, strengthening the ability of institutions to respond to environmental and health-related requirements, and improving coordination among the different sectors involved.

Officials stressed that closer collaboration between relevant institutions is essential for developing an effective public health system capable of addressing emerging health challenges in the city.

They also discussed ways to develop joint working frameworks supported by clear regulatory guidelines that would improve coordination between health authorities and oversight agencies.

Strengthening Food Safety and Environmental Monitoring

The meeting also addressed the importance of improving regulatory coordination in areas such as food safety, pharmaceutical oversight, and environmental sanitation.

Municipal officials reiterated their commitment to supporting efforts aimed at safeguarding public health by ensuring strict compliance with health and environmental regulations. They also stressed the need to enhance public health awareness among residents and strengthen preventive measures against diseases.

Participants agreed that the integration of efforts between health, regulatory, and environmental institutions would improve the effectiveness of inspections and monitoring systems across Benghazi.

The municipality further confirmed that regular coordination meetings will continue in order to follow up on the implementation of recommendations and maintain a safe and sustainable health environment for the city’s population.
