Cypriot FM Calls for EU Sanctions on Turkey

Cypriot Foreign Minister, Nikos Christodoulides called on the European Union to impose immediate sanctions on Turkey. This is to confront Ankara’s illegal actions in the eastern Mediterranean.

In statements to Greek media, Christodoulides said Turkey had chosen to escalate tensions in the region. Ankara has extended the work of the exploration vessel ‘Yavuz’ in the exclusive economic zone of Cyprus.

Christodoulides’ comments come less than a day after Cypriot Defence Minister Charalampos Petrides warned that the situation was a cause for concern. In press statements, Petrides said that the EU should send a decisive message to Turkey and confirm the unity of its position regarding Turkish activities in the region.
