On Saturday, the Defence Ministry of the Libyan Government of National Accord (GNA) announced that the first group of special military forces trained by Turkey has graduated.

A graduation ceremony was held for the GNA’s special military forces in Omar Al-Mokhtar training centre, near Tripoli.

The military students completed 8 weeks of training provided by the Turkish Armed Forces personnel “in order to raise the Libyan army to international standards,” the GNA’s Defence Ministry said in a statement.

The ceremony was attended by a number of members of the Presidential Council, including Ahmed Maiteeq, Ahmed Hamza and Abdul Salam Kajman. Turkish military officials also attended the ceremony, the statement added.

Turkey signed a security and military agreement with the GNA, including a memorandum of understanding on maritime borders. Several countries, including Egypt and Greece, consider these agreements a violation of international law.
