On Monday, Mohamed Sharabi, the Head of the Fishermen’s Syndicate at Al-Burullus Centre in the Egyptian Kafr El-Sheikh Governorate, revealed that Libyan authorities have detained seven Egyptian fishermen.

A fisherman working in Libya contacted one of the families of the detained fishermen, informing them that their son, accompanied by six other fishermen from the Al-Burullus Centre, had been arrested in Libya. Sharabi added that the Egyptians have been detained for the past 35 days.

He confirmed that they were arrested 60 kilometres from the Libyan city of Misrata. They were then taken to the city of Sirte and held there for 25 days. 10 days ago, they were sent to a prison in the city of Benghazi.

Sharabi revealed that the syndicate began coordination with the families of the detained fishermen to end this crisis. He pointed out that cooperation is ongoing with the Egyptian Foreign Ministry to resolve this issue.
