On Monday, the Deputy Chargé d’Affaires of UNICEF (United Nations Children’s Fund) in Libya inaugurated the Nafusa Mountains and Esteklal Schools in Derna. The inauguration was attended by the Director of the International Cooperation Department at the Ministry of Education of the Libyan Interim Government, and the Undersecretary of the Municipality of Derna.
This came after the two schools were rehabilitated by the UNICEF as part of its contribution to advancing the educational process in Libya. A meeting was held on the sidelines of the inauguration to learn about the difficulties facing the education and health sectors in the city of Derna.
Last September, UNICEF completed the rehabilitation of six schools in the southern region, thus creating a safe education environment for children. The rehabilitation project came with support from the EU Emergency Trust Fund for Africa. UNICEF indicated that 1,344 students have already been provided with drinking water and clean sanitation facilities at the Al-Hurriya Primary School, located in the Al-Jadid area of Sebha.
