On Monday, the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed that stabilizing the ceasefire and expelling all mercenaries from Libya is a top priority for Paris.

In a statement, the ministry called on the Libyan parties to abide by the provisions of the ceasefire agreement and expedite the expulsion of all mercenaries from their country.

The ministry stressed there is no room for a military solution in Libya. It also underscored the importance of supporting the political process and holding presidential and parliamentary elections within a year.

Notably, the Director of Moral Guidance of the Libyan National Army (LNA), Major General Khaled Al-Mahjoub, stated on Friday that the LNA has exchanged prisoners with the forces of the Government of National Accord (GNA) in the Shwerif region, southwest of Libya.

This exchange was made under the supervision of the “5+5” Joint Military Commission and Al-Mahjoub added that the prisoner exchange process will continue until all prisoners on both sides return to their families.

The JMC had agreed to exchange prisoners between the LNA and the GNA under the auspices of the UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL). Media sources revealed that 48 prisoners were exchanged between the two conflicting armies.
