The Prime Minister of the Government of National Accord (GNA), Fayez Al-Sarraj, is expected to arrive in Rome on Thursday evening in an unannounced visit, according to the Italian Nova news agency. Nova reported that Al-Sarraj’s visit to Rome is set to last for two days.

Al-Sarraj had recently visited Rome on a private trip, accompanied by his spouse and personal assistant, with no official meetings scheduled for the duration of his visit.

Last month, the GNA’s Minister of Defence, Salah Al-Din Al-Namroush, signed a joint military agreement with Italian authorities to “cooperate in the fields of training, military education, exchange of expertise, support, development, maintenance and consultations, as well as cooperation in the fields of illegal immigration, land and sea border security, ammunition, mine disposal operations, and relief operations in cases of natural disasters.”
