On Friday, the Libyan Coast Guard rescued 36 migrants of various nationalities, northwest of the city of Khoms.

The National Commission for Human Rights in Libya (NCHRL), stated that the Coast Guard dropped the migrants at the Tripoli Naval Base. They have received humanitarian and medical aid, and were handed over to the illegal immigration police.

The committee reiterated that “Libya is not a safe port to return migrants.” In a previous statement, NCHRL criticized the European Union’s policies in “repelling immigrants”, against the backdrop of the sinking of a boat off the coast of Zuwara, last Tuesday.

On Thursday, the humanitarian organization SOS Mediterranee announced that 120 migrants were rescued by the crew of NGO ship ‘Ocean Viking’ off the coast of Libya. Four small children were reportedly among those rescued.
