On Wednesday, the Chief of General Staff for the Armed Forces of Russia, Valery Gerasimov, and his Turkish counterpart, Yasar Guler, discussed the latest developments in Libya, according to a statement by the Russian Defense Ministry.

The two also discussed the situation in Syria, as well as the interaction between the military agencies of the two countries.

Oil-rich Libya has been marred in chaos since the ouster and killing of Muammar Gaddafi in 2011.

It now has two rival authorities and a multitude of militias vying for control of the country.
