In a tragic incident related to illegal migration, 11 Egyptians lost their lives and 15 others were injured in a horrific road accident in the city of Derna, Libya.
The crash occurred on Wednesday evening along the desert road in Derna, eastern Libya. A vehicle carrying 26 Egyptians, who were attempting to migrate illegally, overturned, resulting in 11 fatalities and 15 injuries.
Libyan authorities revealed that the driver of the vehicle was arrested and is being held in custody. Among the injured, two individuals are reported to be in critical condition.
Meanwhile, Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that it is closely monitoring the incident. Spokesman Ambassador Tamim Khalaf stated that Foreign and Immigration Minister Dr. Badr Abdel Aaty has instructed the consular sector and the Egyptian Consulate General in Benghazi to follow up on the matter closely and liaise with the relevant Libyan authorities. The minister also emphasized providing all necessary care to the injured and requested the swift return of the bodies to Egypt once the required procedures are completed.
Egypt has called for decisive action against illegal migration networks and demanded measures to combat these criminal activities. The country has implemented strict laws to tackle illegal migration and to hold accountable those involved in organizing or facilitating such operations. Additionally, Egypt has intensified border controls to prevent the illegal departure of migrants from its shores.
